plant a tree on my property
Trees provide so many benefits to people, animals and of course our Rivers. They cool the summer air of our towns, soak up rainwater that might otherwise flood our streets, provide food and shelter for songbirds, capture pollution from the air and return the oxygen that we breathe. The value of a tree is immeasurable!
ShoreRivers provides no-cost street trees, provided that they are planted in a location that benefits the community: in your front yard, along a sidewalk, in a park or community open space.
MAKE your property RIVER-friendly
Years of scientific monitoring show that most of the pollution in our waters come from within our watershed. Poorly managed farms, failing septic systems, and yard fertilizer all contribute to poor water quality.
Contact us to learn about river-friendly practices, including:
reduce or eliminate fertilizer and pesticide use
clean-up pet waste
install rain gardens and bioretention areas
reduce lawn area by planting native trees and shrubs
REPORT POLLUTION
Report pollution to your local Riverkeeper. For EMERGENCIES please call the Maryland Department of the Environment's Pollution Hotline: (866) 633-4686.
